My Precious Baby Girl

This is Elani, my 2 month old Goddaughter, being breastfed by her mother.

As I watch you sleep, I notice how your nostrils flare as you repeatedly inhale and exhale. I can’t help but smile and think to myself, “Wow, you were created with so much love.” Your cheeks were as smooth as shea butter, your hair resembled silk for it was so soft and fine. With your hand balled into a tiny fist, it was almost as if you were fighting something heavy in your dream. If only I could see those too then just maybe I can know if I’m one of those things you dream about. I see how your eyes move, but you try so hard to keep from waking up. Your short legs are covered with only your toes showing. Your mom raves about how you take feet after her, but we all know that’s the only feature you have of hers.

You finally wake up. You didn’t cry as loud as I had expected, but instead you whispered a sweet sound that only your mom could respond to. “Are you hungry my love?”, she asks and with your face of discomfort, I knew your answer was yes. I watched your mom swiftly whip out her breast and witness the love you shown her. Not only did you caress your little hand on to the side of her breast, but your precious eyes admired her. So big and bold you stared into your mother’s eyes. It was almost as if you were thanking her for responding in such a timely manner. You smile because you see how attentive your mom is with you and without a doubt you know you are a princess within this household. Elani, my beautiful baby, you are truly a work of art and there is nothing in this world that I wouldn’t do for you.
